I've played many runs now and here is my feedback:
The game is fun, the core gameplay is very original and I can see some depth in it in some interactions. The only downside I found in this aspect is that in my experience they are really hard to pull off and most runs I felt I didn't had the chance to build an interesting combo. My highlight moment was getting a payout of 28 (14 dmg x2 mult) by playing Desperate Move betting only 1 coin with +2 counterfit, very satisfaying.
The shop is something I think it can improve, whenever it appears early on the run the prices are so expensive it feels like the run would end next room if I spend so many coins, and you can get most of the items through loot anyway, I never use the shop unless I have around 25-30 coins and it usually takes me 10 rooms more or less to get there.
As for the enemies I suppose you plan on adding more of them and I'll be looking forward to it, still something worth to mention is that the Bat that takes all the coins and halves it between the player and itself makes the game pretty stale when it uses that move every turn.
Other pain points/minor bugs:
Looking forward new content!
Really interesting insights, thank you!
I want to ask you some follow up questions for the shops:
Have you bought any pack yet? Currently the rest of the cards you don't use get resold recouping some of the coins you spent (and sometimes even turning into profit).
Knowing this changes how you feel about the shop?
I believe this should be more clear and I'm wandering if you knew about it and how it affects using the shop :)
For the stickers applied to the card. Since you can put as many as you want you can right click on the card to have it full screen and hover over each sticker to get reminded of their effect!
I'm already on the other bugs, from the trickster (that shouldn't get looped on that move) to the other you reported!
Thank you for playing and thanks for the feedback!
Yes, I tried buying and reselling a few boosters packs and it does mitigate the impact but it still feels like a little gamble I would rather do with more coins since I didn't find many interesting stuff in the common packs in early game.
I did not know about right clicking on cards and hovering over the sticker, that is very helpful!
My overly wordy feedback:
GAME IS FUN and has lots of potential. Obviously needs more cards, stickers, enemy variety and audio, but even with its very limited amount of content I kept wanting to play.
I really like the seed selection screen before every run.
The artwork is very nice and the fake 3d camera is a great touch.
Can’t wait for more content, better decorated UI (hopefully) and sound, especially sound.
I wrote down some issues/thoughts I had while playing. Though they might sound overly negative and nitpicky I want to emphasize that I really enjoyed my time playing this game, and I really hope it succeeds, so being very critical comes from a place of genuine good will, I swear:
- Anti-aliasing looks very strange. Things like the “PAYOUT” text are clearly stretched using some kind of filter but still looks jagged. It would probably look better without any filter OR with a better one.
- A lot of the card’s artwork is too dark. Especially cards like Cheap Trick and Hit, they need at least some sections to look a bit brighter in my opinion. Game in general is a bit too dark, might be due to the very heavy vignette?
- Glossary for game terms would be neat.
- Card speed is not explained in the tutorial.
- In the tutorial, the game warns you to not bet below the minimum coin requirement and won’t let you progress until you do UNLESS you try clicking on the card before using the scroll wheel for the first time, in that case, nothing happens. It should probably give that same warning.
- There's rewards for high bets but not high damage which is strange. Having no reward for obliterating enemies is kind of unsatisfying.
- Damage calculation caps out at the enemy’s health instead of showing the full damage dealt, which is a bit unsatisfying. If I spend time building a high damage combo, I want to see what that damage actually totals at.
For example: Against an enemy with 7 hp, successfully throwing 6 coins that all deal 2.5 damage shouldn't display only “7 damage”, even if that is the enemy's health. It should show “15 damage”. I want to see what number I actually reached.
- Wish I could view my deck while being in the shop.
BUG: After applying a sticker to a card while in the shop, the game no longer shows the effects of stickers being sold when hovering over them.
BUG(?): Adding damage to the coin toss does nothing.
Actual example: I buffed Coin Toss by setting it beside Catch Up until it reached a base damage of 2. I tossed two coins, both suns, dealt 3 damage instead of 5, it didn’t apply the base damage given by Catch Up.
If being unable to buff Coin Toss is intentional, which I don’t think is the case, it is not properly communicated.
GAME IS FUN THO
That's an amazing feedback! Thank you for taking your time to write everything!
Some of these are coming later today in the first 1.0.1 hotfix, like the game being less dark or making sure the tooltip never disappear in the shop.
I will make a devlog with the detailed changelog as soon as it's out so make sure to follow us!
Anyway I took note of everything and we are going to tackle some (if not all) between 1.1 and 1.2! Thank you again for the great feedback!
Hi! We really value your feedback and have kind of been using this as a list of things to work on, haha.
Payout text was on nearest filter. This isn't on the current patch but I have a fix coming soon.
We adjusted many card artworks to be brighter. We agree with your sentiment about the game being a bit too dark, and the cards should really stand out against the darkness.
Eventually we want to have game terms be explained in tooltips. We'll address this soon, but we completely agree!
We adjusted the tutorial to explain card speed, and certain enemies also have a reminder, such as the rat and the trickster, that their moves are FAST. Hopefully our improvements to the tutorial help.
Damage is used to calculate the payout, so dealing fat damage in conjunction with betting small is a fast way to make generational wealth. However, this isn't really clearly conveyed despite being such a cornerstone mechanic. I also agree that damage should show how much you deal to enemies uncapped to enemy health, just for fun. We will bring it back.
We added a view deck button in the shop, and a hide button as well to prevent that bug. Hopefully that helps! We also addressed the sticker tooltip bug (hopefully)
Our next big update will have loads of new content!
Thank you so much!
Is there another way of changing the bet without using the scroll wheel? I'm on laptop and the bet numbers change real quick with the touchpad. Or at least a way to change the speed of the bet changing with the scroll wheel.
Not at the moment sadly...
But I can add this to the upcoming 1.0.1 hotfix planned for today/tomorrow! 👍
Hi! We just added the ability to bet using arrow keys. Thank you for your feedback!
Run 1 = missed every coin toss
Run 2= Spent coins on item just to get robbed by rat
Run 3 = Made it to room 15 with 15 coins and same rat with magnet(15) robbed me
Rats really are a menace 🥲
We jokingly call them run enders internally!
Rats are EVIL. Chase them down!
